St. Charles High School - 990 Words
Most people might view St. Charles High School as a typical high school. However, another perspective of St. Charles High School may be a cosmopolitan canopy. According to Elijah Anderson, in The Cosmopolitan Canopy, a cosmopolitan canopy is when diverse people interact. However, tension among the people is expected. St. Charles High School is a cosmopolitan canopy because it is diverse, comfortable, and civil. According to the Charles County Public Schools, St. Charles High School is comprised of 1,245 students. Out of 1,245 students a close majority are black while whites and Hispanics form the minority. From 1,245 students majority are females and males hold the minority. St. Charles High School aids a comfortable, flexible learning environment not only for students but also for staff. This environment is called collaborative learning areas. In these sections students can feel free to take their learning from a traditional desk setting to couches in the hallway. Students will stil l learn their teacherââ¬â¢s lesson, however, they are not under constant supervision of their teacher. Classrooms are not cosmopolitan canopies because students are expected to act in a civilized manner, however, collaborative learning areas are cosmopolitan canopies because the students are not forced to behave in a civil manner.
